December Daily - Day 1

...I know!  2 posts in one day, but yesterday, when I set up the advent wreath tutorial, I had forgotten about the December daily.  I am challenging myself to take one photo a day in December to put into this:

I am really trying to make the photos more of everyday life, and less of Christmas, because Christmas BEGINS December 25, and goes for 12 days.  My goal (like in previous years) is to enjoy all of Christmas, even when the secular world stops on December 26.

Here is today's photo:
Noah made a bullseye out of paper and taped it to his bedroom door so he could shoot his arrows that he made out of connects.  I just love how creative this kid is!

How to make an Advent Wreath

...my first tutorial!  Ethan (4 year old) and I made this today:

...and here is how we did it:
take one foam circle

cut out leaves from the cricut

we used scrap paper and different sizes

we then embossed with a cuddle bug embossing folder and my sizzix machine

we stuck 4 candles into the foam

Then we inked all of the leaves with Ranger distress ink

we began to glue all of the leaves onto the foam

voilia!

Dad's 60th birthday cake

Tomorrow night we are having a surprise birthday party for my dad.  He turns 60 on December 18, and fankly, no one really can get together then, so we are having it this week.  I made his cake (with Noah and Ethan's influence of design)  I hope he likes it.

A thankful challenge

Even though we in Canada celebrated thanksgiving in October, our American friends are celebrating this next week.  The Paper Variety put out a challenge for a layout to use the word thanks in the title somehow...  I used Thankful.  The Scrapping Nook is finishing up the November week long on-line crop tomorrow, and challenge #17 was to use a recipe on a layout.  So, naturally, I put both of these great challenges together and came up with:

Thankful
materials used:  bo bunny, imaginence pp; prima leaves; ek success boarder punch; simple stories letter stickers; ranger glossy accents; forever in time pearls; unknown ribbon; staedtler pens in brown and orange  based on a layout I found in Scrapbook and cards today magazine fall 2011

A tag and a double page lay out

Hi there!
I don't do too many double page layouts...but I wanted to showcase both boys and their art that they made to give to Auntie Christie & Uncle Mark for their wedding in September.  The quote is one of the challenges from The Scrapping Nook's week long on-line crop (happening right now!) and the layout is based on sketch #182 from Creative Scrappers

based on creative scrappers sketch #182
pp-cosmo cricket, fancy pants & simple stories; thread ikea; distressing tool - tim holtz; ink - ranger & martha stewart; cardstock - bazzill; pen - staedtler; chipboard letters - the girls paperie; stickles & glossy accents - ranger; adhesive - beacons & american crafts; pop dot - forever in time; edge punch - eksuccess

..and this is one of about 10 tags that I've made to get a head start. (also for The Scrapping Nook week long on-line crop).  After I posted the one on the left in the scrapping nook gallery, I decided I needed to "spruce" it up a little (HA!)...and I embossed it with a sizzix folder, inked it with green ranger ink and added candy cane stickles by ranger.  What do you think?

materials used: ink - stampin up! & ranger; cricut cartridge: lyrical letters; stamp - stampin up!; ribbon & file folder - unknown

We've had some sort of "bug" come through our house the last few days.  Unfortunately, everyone is having a turn - I'm feeling much better today, and have kept everything that I've eaten inside my body (fingers crossed).  Maybe I'll get to creating again this afternoon.

Cousins

I finally got around to scrapping this photos of the 4 Perrin cousins from last December (how embarrassing), but I did so because of the challenge set forth by The Paper Variety.  The challenge is to put a family word - "family", "dad", "mom" "cousin" etc. into the title, and this is what I came up with:

Sorry that the photo isn't all that great, it reads:  Cousins by chance, Friends by choice December 2010.

supplies used:  pp, rubons, stickers - fancy pants; grungeboard letters - tim holtz; letter stickers - cosmo cricket; thread - coats; adheasive - ez runner, zip dry; ink - Ranger; sketch - pagemaps Jan 2011

Ethan is home sick today, so this is about all of the creating for today.  I am heading to Karen's Creations Friday for an evening crop.  Should be fun (and I hope productive).

You Need Your Imagination Here

Hi there!

I completed this LO for a Pagemaps blog contest - a chance to win a whole bunch of goodies!  When Ethan and I would be at childrens hospital in London waiting for his appointment...we had to get creative with keeping ourselves busy, as colouring and TV only went so far.  I would pull out the camera and we had all sorts of fun!

materials used:  pagemaps sketch; cosmo cricket pp; guttermann thread; american crafts embossing powder; tim holtz die, stamp and distressing tool; girls paperie chipboard letters; simple stories letter stickers
